SELF CARE TIPS FOR WINTER
As the cool and dark days set in, it is so easy to stay inside and take less care of ourselves. The inspirational days of sun and blue skies have disappeared and this can make it difficult to stay motivated at times!
Let's explore some lovely ways to nurture ourselves during the darker months:
Nurturing our bodies
The cold weather can put our immune systems to the test and leave us feeling unwell and more susceptible to colds and flus and whatever else may be going around!
It is essential to prioritise wholesome eating, ensuring we give our bodies loads of nourishing food like soups, roasted vegetables, salads and vitamin c packed fruit! Remember to eat with the seasons! There is a reason that all of the vitamin c packed fruit is in season during the colder months!
Move, move, move! We know it can be so difficult to venture outside when it's dark, cold, rainy and/or snowy! These days there are so many amazing home workout options. Pilates, yoga, stretching, hiit, cardio, strength and at home ballet just to name a few. Find something on YouTube that you love and make a promise to yourself to do it 3-4 times a week during these months. You will feel better and you are more likely to eat better when you're moving more.
Sleep
Use these slower months to get your sleep routine in check. It is so easy to not get enough sleep however sleep is so important to keep our immune systems healthy. Go to bed early and enjoy the fresh feeling of getting adequate sleep!
Hygge
Ever heard of the Danish concept Hygge? Hygge means creating a warm and cosy atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. This means burning beautiful luxury scented candles, cosy blankets, fabulous slippers, inspiring books, lovely food and creating special warm and wholesome moments at home.
Stay Social
The colder months make it so easy to isolate ourselves although social connection is so important for our overall wellbeing. If you cannot bring yourself to venture out in the sad weather, light a luxury scented candle, create a cosy ambience and organise a virtual catch up to ensure you stay connected with your nearest and dearest.
